I first made a "Chaffinch" cabinet about 3 years ago, so it was nice to revisit the design and make some alterations for a new bedside cabinet. What changed?

Character Oak Chest of Drawers
A short wee post to talk about this chest of drawers that I was asked to make at the start of August. I have only got this one photo so I'll just describe it for you.

“Eider” Sofa Table (#5)
At the Glenkinchie Christmas Fayre I had a couple of pieces of furniture on display and one of the visitors liked my “Eider” sofa table and so commissioned me to make another. I used some of my own 200 year old Dumfriesshire oak and the client chose to have the legs in walnut to give that crisp contrast on the top surface. Dimensions: H 540 x W 240 x L 445 mm.

January and February recap
First job of the year was a 2.7 metre long desk in beech. To allow easier transportation and because of the limitations in available sizes of sheets, it was necessary to make the desk in two parts. The first part was the desk plus drawer cabinet, and the second part was the rightmost drawer cabinet.

Olive Ash and Mahogany Stripe Creepie (#12)
The second of two olive ash and reclaimed mahogany creepies that were made specially for the Glenkinchie Distillery Christmas Fayre. This one is two staves of olive ash with a mahogany stave sandwiched between, and mahogany skirts.

November’s Jobs
November was busy with a variety of large and small builds: lamp bases, walnut trays and wheels, and a Corncrake dining table.

Olive Ash and Mahogany Creepie (#11)
With the Glenkinchie Distillery Christmas Fayre on the horizon, I finally was able to use up some of my olive ash offcuts to make more creepies. I was also gifted some old mahogany tables from which I was able to reclaim some lovely coloured pieces that I could use for the skirts.

The “Corncrake” Dining Table
Time for a dining table. This one is an 8-seater which is large enough to be an occasional 10-seater. The table length was a slight limiting factor and so I opted to go slightly wider and have two placings at each end to give a 10-seater 3-2-3-2 configuration.

May and June Work
I had a variety of contract jobs in May and June. Here are a few examples of the pieces that I made. A TV unit in walnut, two oak bedside cabinets and an oak console table.

Creepie Variations on a Theme (#9 and #10)
A pair of creepies commissioned to bring back memories. It's the first time that my furniture has caused the customer to burst into tears and give me a hug. 🤗

The “Snipe” Sideboard
My "Snipe" sideboard. Continuing the design cues from the filing cabinet - cut-away drawer pulls and walnut highlights - and adding asymmetric freeform slatted doors with offset handles. Everyone in the workshop loved it.
