First job of the year was a 2.7 metre long desk in beech. To allow easier transportation and because of the limitations in available sizes of sheets, it was necessary to make the desk in two parts. The first part was the desk plus drawer cabinet, and the second part was the rightmost drawer cabinet.

Creepies #13, #14 and #15
I moved workshop towards the end of the year and that finally gave me the impetus to use up some yew, elm, maple and ash that I had been hoarding for a while. A wee bit snow in the Lammermuirs gave me a nice festive photo shoot location for two of them. The first one, shown below, is book-matched Scottish yew flanking a piece of reclaimed mahogany on the top and the sides are mitred and rounded with the live-edge used at the bottom of the skirts. Glenkinchie Christmas Fayre 2024
This Christmas market season, I will be having a stall at Glenkinchie Distillery’s Christmas Fayre on 7th and 8th December. I’ll have a selection of creepies, chopping boards, bowls and other wooden items for sale. Over the 7th & 8th there will be 20% off at the distillery gift shop and there will be other local artisans, hot toddies & winter cocktails at the bar. Book a spot on their Festive Flavour Experience while Newton Grange Silver band will be spreading the festive cheer on Saturday 7th & Pencaitland Community Choir on Sunday 8th. Olive Ash and Mahogany Stripe Creepie (#12)
The second of two olive ash and reclaimed mahogany creepies that were made specially for the Glenkinchie Distillery Christmas Fayre. This one is two staves of olive ash with a mahogany stave sandwiched between, and mahogany skirts.

November’s Jobs
November was busy with a variety of large and small builds: lamp bases, walnut trays and wheels, and a Corncrake dining table.

Olive Ash and Mahogany Creepie (#11)
With the Glenkinchie Distillery Christmas Fayre on the horizon, I finally was able to use up some of my olive ash offcuts to make more creepies. I was also gifted some old mahogany tables from which I was able to reclaim some lovely coloured pieces that I could use for the skirts.

The “Corncrake” Dining Table
Time for a dining table. This one is an 8-seater which is large enough to be an occasional 10-seater. The table length was a slight limiting factor and so I opted to go slightly wider and have two placings at each end to give a 10-seater 3-2-3-2 configuration.

Scottish Furniture Makers Association
The Scottish Furniture Makers Association is a membership body which promotes and supports independent furniture designers and makers across Scotland, celebrating their art, craft and creativity. I finally got round to applying and on 6th of September 2024 I am delighted to say that I was accepted into the association.

The “Marbled Duck” Table
A wee table, designed as a replacement for my client's old table and designed specifically to showcase the client's own piece of marble (- hence the choice of name). The rich brown of the walnut gives a fantastic match for the rose coloured marble.
