The “Marbled Duck” Table

A wee table, designed as a replacement for my client’s old table and designed specifically to showcase the client’s own piece of marble (- hence the choice of name). The legs are tapered on the inside faces and curved to meet the joints to the rails. Roundovers were applied to all vertices including those on the mating faces of the joints and this provides great definition to the individual pieces of wood used in the piece. The top frame is mitred and holds the marble captive. The underside of the frame has a large chamfer on the underside which gives a nice shadow gap accentuating and differentiating the top surface. The rich brown of the walnut gives a fantastic match for the rose coloured marble.

Dimensions of the table are approx. 500 mm long x 560 mm wide x 600 mm high. The table was finished in Osmo clear satin.

Lovely to see my ‘Marbled Duck’ table out in the sunshine. Ian’s vision and craftsmanship is second to none and we shall treasure this table for a long time.
The marble was rescued after my son, in his early driving days, managed to drive into the marble, breaking it in half as it stood in our garage. (His driving has since improved!) Originally. it was part of an Edwardian wash stand in my childhood bedroom, so it means so much to me to have it reincarnated into such a lovely piece of furniture.
It now has pride of place in my dining room in my new home in West Sussex.
    Thank you Iain.
