A garden bench commissioned by a friend, broadly to their design, with their colour of paint.
This bench is made from Accoya. Why Accoya? Accoya is a pine timber that has been acetylated which makes its fibres hydrophobic and as a result it is very resistant to rot. It has a 50 year warranty for ‘above ground’ conditions and used in the ground or in freshwater it still has an incredible 25 year warranty!
Its dislike of water also means that it is also dimensionally stable in outdoor conditions – and this should help to preserve the life of the painted coating (Ronseal Garden paint) which is only due to be colour-fast for 5 years. The colours are Summer Sky (top) and Cool Breeze (legs).
The loose tenons used in the joints are all made from Accoya too. The screws used to attach the plastic feet and the top planks to the legs are marine grade A4 stainless steel as required for Accoya timber and outdoor use. The glue used is Titebond III which is their waterproof glue. Hopefully the whole thing will stay together having also been sealed by the paint!
